
CPN-UML, will choose new leadership during the ongoing 11th General Convention of the party at the close door session, that started on Sunday at Bhrikutimandap hall in Kathmandu. The filing of candidacy took place on Monday for the post of president and other office bearers of the party, according to party sources.
The CPN-UML organized a grand public meeting during the inaugural of the general convention at Sallaghari of Bhaktapur district on Saturday. Deposed Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on the occasion sought cooperation from his party colleagues to elect him for the third consecutive term saying that the party was facing severe crisis after the Gen Z movement toppled the UML led government in September.
The final voters list was published at 10.15 am and the candidates were given time for nomination forms from 9 am to 12 pm. The final name list of the candidates was published at 6 pm. The voting will start at Bhrikutimandap from 11 am till 5 pm on December 16. The UML is using electronic voting machine for
casting the voting. Around 2,260 eligible voters will caste their votes during the election.
During the election incumbent Chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokhrel are vying for the top post in the UML. Oli is seeking the post of party chair for the third time.
Following the Gen Z movement in September strong voice is being raised within the UML to change the party’s top leadership as well as bringing in more and more youths in various positions including the central committee of the party.
