Ministers in Prime Minister Balen Shaha’s cabinet appear focusing on doing things that make people sense in real life. This marks a promising departure from the practice of “speechifying” or “rhetorics” on change.
“Two impressive examples in this regard could be: switchover to online renewal of pension cardholders and prompt checking of SEE-2082 B.S. answer sheets,” said a senior media analyst.
“The former serves the interest of some 350 thousand recipients, some of whom very old and weak to visit banks for physical paper –renewal. The latter touches the heart of SEE students – 512,421 in number – and their families. Both used to be considered “undoable” in the past.
Other ministries are also in the process of making service-seekers feel the change in their dealing with the public, informed sources close to ministries.
Night bus in Kathmandu, a very old demand of commuters in the Valley, is available in two sections from day one of the new year 2083 B.S. “That has been a felt need for quite some time, but not properly addressed by the authorities concerned,” observed a senior citizen of Lalitpur.
Property declaration by PM Balen Cabinet has also been done within 17 days of government formation. The law to this effect demands such disclosure within 60 days of appointment.
Various measures are being undertaken to discourage corruption and make governance prompt and service-centric. The 100-point blue print of government is guiding all in cabinet to steer their attention.
Analysts say if the blue print is pursued as in initial times, the government would make a real difference in the first hundred days.
