Nepalis enter the new year 2083 B.S. with hope for future and enthusiasm for conscious participation in present day activities. New Prime Minister, new Speaker, new Deputy Speaker, new ruling party Rastriya Swatantra Party, more new youth-parliamentarians, and fresh People’s Mandate! All produce optimism in multiple spheres particularly governance, public service delivery and move against corruption, nepotism and red-tapeism. Some glimpse of the same could be felt and experienced in the initial steps undertaken by government led by Prime Minister Balen Shaha. All expect future steps would consolidate the process in the best interest of Nepalis. The meaningful change that the PM Balen-Cabinet seeks to bring about in handling government affairs deserves appreciation. It could be termed as people-centric and service-oriented. Although some particularly those who have been kicked out of power-point and those who enjoyed for decades with no sense of accountability because of their loyalty and connectivity with top leaders in the past do not know how to interpret the new style and approach of governance and politics. Because of this they could not develop a proper political narrative for events such as why Premier BS chose not to address the first session of parliament, why the RSP decided not to celebrate victory after great success in general election, and why RSP backed new political outfit–Shram Sanskriti Party for the post of Deputy Speakership. The earlier political scripts, the traditional one mainly fed by political transactionism, have just been outdated in interpretation of latest initiatives. The care the new government is taking in pursuing the spirit and track of the constitution is great; evidences to this effect have been available in various ministerial decisions. May the spirit and fervor be further boosted in the New Year 2083!
