Ruby Kumari Thakur has been elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives on Friday. Thakur, 25, a Lawmaker of Shram Sanskriti Party, was elected to the post with the backing of ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party, according to Parliament secretariat sources.

During Friday’s voting in the Lower House, majority Lawmakers endorsed a proposal to elect Thakur as deputy speaker. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, who was elected to the post last week representing RSP, announced her victory.

Earlier, a separate proposal to elect Saraswati Lama of Rastriya Prajatantra Party as deputy Speaker was rejected by a majority of Lawmakers.
