Nepali karate player Erika Gurung, who fetched a silver medal at the Karate One Premier League held in China, has returned to Nepal on Monday.
Erika representing Nepal secured a silver medal after finishing runner-up in the Karate One Premier League held in Leshan, China recently. In the final round held on Sunday, she was defeated 2-1 by Kazakhstan’s Sofia Berultseva. Earlier, Erika had advanced to the final by defeating Italy’s Cleolia Ferracuti 8-3 in the women’s 68 kg category semifinal. This was the second time Erika faced defeat against Sofia in a final. Previously she lost the
game to the same opponent in the Karate One Premier League final in Turkey.
Before advancing to the semifinals, Erika remained unbeaten in the group stage, winning all her matches. She then comfortably defeated Slovenia’s Jibret Jala 8-0 in the quarterfinal. Upon returning home, Erika, along with her coach and manager, officials of the Nepal Karate Federation accorded warm welcome to them at Tribhuvan International Airport.
