A drone strike targeted Britain’s Royal Air Force base at Akrotiri in Cyprus shortly after midnight, causing some damage but no casualties, according to officials. President Nikos Christodoulides confirmed a Shahed-type unmanned aircraft crashed into the facility around mid-night, prompting a full operational alert.
Authorities said a second drone was intercepted. It was unclear where the Iranian-made drone was launched from.Cyprus said it is not involved in any military operation. The base, retained by Britain since 1960, has supported missions in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
