The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the suspended captain of the Nepali cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, to be detained for two more days.

According to the police, the court on Sunday gave permission to extend the custody period for 2 days for the fourth time. The former captain is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl two months ago.

The girl filed a complaint alleging that Sandeep took her to a hotel and raped her on August 21.

An investigation is underway against Lamichhane under Section 219 of the Criminal Code 2074. If the crime against him is proven, he will be jailed for 10 to 12 years as per the existing legal provisions.

The minor had filed a case against the cricketer on September 6 at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala. After Lamichhane returned home from abroad on October 6, he was arrested from the airport. Sandeep has been claiming that the complainant is above 18 years of age and the allegations made against him are ill-intent.
