
Embassy of India, Kathmandu successfully organized the inaugural edition of the Indian Ambassador’s Cricket Tournament from May 31 to June 8, 2025 at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.
The tournament was enthusiastically participated in by six teams representing Indian Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, British Embassy, Federation of Nepali Journalists Association, Corporates, and the India Disapora (ICAN) in Nepal, according to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy.
The opening ceremony was held on May 31, graced by the presence of Ambassador of India to Nepal, British Ambassador and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal.
Following a week of spirited and friendly competition, the tournament culminated in a thrilling match on June 8, where the Indian Embassy team had a face off with the ICAN team, according to the press release.
The final was followed by trophy distribution ceremony attended by the Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, President of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chatur Bahadur Chand and Joint Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gahendra Rajbhandari, where top performers were recognized and felicitated. In the evening, a reception was organized to celebrate the success of the tournament, which was graced by Minister for Youth and Sports, Tejulala Chaudhary of Nepal.
In an important step to strengthen Nepal-India cooperation, in the field of sports, ambassador Srivastava handed over cricket kits to three promising U-19 Nepali cricketers. On the same occasion Embassy of India, Kathmandu also announced the launch of the “Ambassador’s Cricket Fellowship for Nepali youth, under which two yung cricketers from Nepal will be provided with opportunity to receive short term coaching academies in India.
