Taking action against unauthorized medical practices Nepal Medical Council has prevented two Indian doctors from conducting an in vitro fertilisation (IVF) consultation camp at the Hotel Yak and Yeti in Kathmandu on Thursday.
The measure taken by the NMC, the national regulatory body of medical doctors, came after it was found that the foreign doctors had not taken any permission from the NMC before conducting the said medical camp in Kathmandu.
“We had also asked for help from the district administration office to NMC stops unauthorized IVF by Indian doctors without permission prevent the Indian doctors from conducting the health camp without our approval,” said Dr Satis Kumar Deo, registrar of the Council.
“To conduct any health camps or services in Nepal, foreign doctors must register their medical degrees with the council, and take approval for the service,” he pointed out adding. As they had fulfilled due procedure, we have prevented them from doing so.”
The Indian doctors, who have been barred from providing their medical service in Nepal are identified as Dr. Jaideep Malhotra and Dr. Narendra Malhotra, according to the Nepal Medical Council.
IVF is a fertility treatment, in which a woman’s eggs are retrieved and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory before the resulting embryo is transferred back into the uterus to maintain pregnancy. It is commonly used to treat infertility, and blocked fallopian tubes, among other disorders.
They have asked for pardon in writing admitting their mistake and also promised not to make such a mistake in future, so we have not taken any further action against them, said Deo talking to PTI.
