Monsoon enters Nepal a week earlier

The Department of Meteorology of Water and Meteorology, the authentic institution of Government of Nepal has said that monsoon of this year has entered Nepal from the eastern part of the country before a week earlier than the average.

The department has issued a special bulletin today stating that this year’s monsoon system has arrived in Province No. 1 of Nepal on Sunday June 05. In other parts of Nepal, the monsoon is expected to start in a few days. Although the average date for the onset of monsoon in Nepal is June 13, the department’s website had earlier mentioned that the monsoon usually enters Nepal on June 10.

The monsoon enters from the eastern part of the country and gradually extends to the west. The four-month period from June to September is called the monsoon period in the South Asian region. In this regard, it is mentioned in the bulletin that the weather forecast department is continuously monitoring this year’s monsoon system and is updating it regularly accordingly.

The monsoon season which has entered is most likely bring above normal rain in most parts of the country, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted earlier.

The department released a long-range forecast which put together its observation made on the basis of the study from World Meteorological Organization, the department’s own technology and study from South Asian Climate Outlook Forum.

According to the recent most prediction, there is 35-45 % probability that northern parts of Province 1, most parts of Madhes Province and southern part of Bagmati Province will receive normal rainfall during this season. Meanwhile, remaining areas have 35-65 % probability to witness above-normal rainfall. The maximum temperature in northern parts of the country and in most of Madhes Province is predicted to be normal by 35-55 %, while it will likely be lower than normal in rest of the country
