Senior advocated Tikaram Bhattarai has claimed that it is unconstitutional to arrest former Prime Minister KP Oli through issuing an urgent arrest warrant. It is illegal to arrest some one selectively on the basis of the Gauri Bahadur Karki probe commission report. He said so while the hearing on Oli’s habeas corpus petition was in progress in the bench of Supreme Court justice Meghral Pokharel.

Presenting his argument Bhattarai said that Oli’s arrest was also illegal on the ground that the government has not yet made public the report of the probe commission.

Similarly, former attorney general and senior advocate Ramesh Badal said that Oli should be released on the basis of personal guarantee. On behalf of Oli, his spouse Radhika Shakya filed a petition on SUnday demanding immediate release of Oli claiming that the arrest was illegal.

Former Prime Minsiter Oli and then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested on Saturday alleging that they were responsible for cracking down the GEn Z protests on September 8 and 9 last year in which 76 people were killed.
