RSP get 182 seats, Balendra to become new PM

The Election Commission has finally allocated seats under the proportional representation voting system to the political parties. According to the EC notice, Rastriya Swatantra Party has bagged highest number of 57 seats under PR, followed by Nepali Congress 20, CPN-UML 16, Nepali Communist Party 9, Shram Sanskriti Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party four each.

Now the total number of seats received by RSP has reached 182, as the party bagged 125 seats under direct voting. This is followed by NC with 38, UML 25, NCP 17, SSP 7 and RPP 5 seats.The RSP is now two seats short of getting two third majority. The RSP having received clear majority, more than 138 seats, in the 275 member House of Representatives, is now in the position to form the new government under Article 76(1) of the Constitution. The party has already declared former Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah “Balen” as its Prime Ministerial candidate. Balen will be the first Prime Minister from the Madhesi community as well as the youngest ever elected PM of Nepal.
