
Nepal Fine Arts Academy (NAFA) has recently organized a programme on the ‘Condition and Challenges of Art Journalism’. The one day event was conducted at the institution on Wednesday.
In the event conducted under chairpersonship of the chancellor of NAFA Naradamani Hartamchhali, writer/journalist Narayan Dhungana presented a working paper titled “The State and Challenges of Art Journalism”. Journalist SushilaTamang commented on the working paper. Jagat Vashisht, Diveshaman Singh Pradhan, Omprakash Ghimire, Dilli Acharya, Madhu Shahi, Chandni Hamal and others threw their views on the subject matter during the event.
On the occasion, Hartamchali, said that the role of art journalism will be important to enable and strengthen art activities locally. He held the view that the institution is working according to its capacity in the fields of art discovery, research, honours, awards etc. He also mentioned that since art plays an important role in social and cultural transformation, it is the responsibility of art journalists to communicate about it and also investigate the problems in this area.
Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’,Member Secretary of NAFA said that fine art is a subject related to culture and civilization and that it is necessary to spread its dimension to the people and the world today, so this program was organized.
Narayan Dhungana discussed the beginning, past and present practice of art journalism and discussed in detail about its condition, challenges and the work to be done in its development and promotion. He also emphasized that all sectors and concerned bodies should be involved in promoting art activities in the society.
Journalist SushilaTamang said that the state of art journalism, the place given to art bit by journalism in the post-Covid-19 period, the contribution of women journalists in this field, and the need for initiative from the state at the policy level to enable and strengthen fine art journalism in a systematic manner. Officials of the foundation, artists, journalists, students and representatives of various organizations participated in the programme.
