With the ministry reshuffled and ruling coalition settled for the time being, the government should now concentrate on economy and development works with a sense of urgency, said senior politicos in Kathmandu on Monday.

Both areas remained un-prioritized for the past year because of government’s and political parties’ focus on general election. As a result of the negligence, the economic problems people face daily have increased. Worst among them is the uncontrolled price rise of essential goods such as food and vegetables in the market.

Consumers complain against the sky-rocketing market price but there is no authority to check the excessive price rise. Unemployment is another problem biting the youth force in the country. Making economy functional and able to absorb youth force should be prioritized, say some economists.

“Development works should be undertaken extensively for the purpose. A friendly situation for spending development expenses should be created through appropriate policy intervention,” observed a media analyst.

Investment friendly climate should be created in the country’s economy. The same could lead to engaging economic forces in a significant manner and productive modality.

People are expecting much from the new Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat. They urge him to introduce policies which will directly address problems such as unemployment, price rise and low development expenses.

“He should try to tackle some pressing economic problems before he prepares the budget for the next fiscal year” said some consumers and investors. “The same message is being sent to him through organizations of traders, industrialists and other organized businesses.”
