
Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN) is preparing the ninth edition of the Power Summit 2025.The event will take place on September 17 – 18, with the theme ‘Mission 28,500 MW: Powering Nepal, Energizing Region’.
The event, will be organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation with aims to accelerate hydropower development and regional energy cooperation.
As of now, Nepal’s total installed capacity stands at 3,602 MW, which includes private hydropower producers contributing 2,900 MW. Moreover, IPPAN mentions that presently private sector-led hydropower projects totaling 4,200 MW are under construction. In addition, hydropower projects of 4,100 MW had secured power purchase agreements (PPA), are trying to get financial closure.
IPPAN source states that the private sector has mobilized over Rs 1,300 billion in hydropower and the sector is ready to invest Rs. 5,000 billion more to meet the of 28,500 MW by the year 2035. Moreover, it is worth mention that the Energy Development Roadmap-2081 announced by the Government of Nepal aims an additional 25,000 MW in the next decade.
Over 1,000 attendees, including Nepal’s Prime Minister, international dignitaries, and energy stakeholders, are expected to participate the summit to discuss green energy transition, carbon trading, and policy reforms.
The summit has been expected to be instrumental in addressing challenges like infrastructure development, climate resilience, and cross-border energy trade, with participation from 30 countries, including India as the Country Partner.
