Nepal witnesses 15.7 percent growth in tourist arrival in January

Nepal recorded in total 92,573 international tourist arrivals by air in the month of January, the first month of 2026, which is 15.7 percent increment as compared to the same period last year, according to data released by Nepal Tourism Board.

In January 2026, India stood first with 26,624 arrivals by air followed by China with 9,101, USA with 8,406, Bangladesh with 5,814 and Australia with 4,957 arrivals. Indian market improved by 30 percent in January this year as there were only 20,485 Indian arrivals in the same period last year.

SAARC region accounted for nearly 40 percent of the total tourist arrivals in January 2026 with 36,375 arrivals by air. In January 2025, in total 79,991 international visitors arrived in Nepal by air.

According to a statement issued by Nepal Tourism Board, the increase in number of international tourist arrival is due to improved image of the country, destination promotion and expansion of air connection.
