
A medical team dispatched from Gaur Provincial Hospital, Rautahat, has reached Birgunj Metropolitan City to extend support in a bid to contain the spread of diarrhea and cholera in the Metropolis.
The Gaur Provincial Hospital has sent the team consisting of two doctors and three health assistants led by Dr Parashu Ram Yadav and Dr Bishnu Kumar Sah to Narayani Hospital, Birgunj, on Monday after dozens of people were found suffering from diarrhoea and cholera in the city since Friday, according to officials at the Gaur Provincial Hospital.
“We have sent the medical team in order to assist in controlling the diarrhoea and cholera that spread in Birgunj city and coordinate the treatment of the patients”, pointed out Mohammad Anwar Hasmi, chairperson of the hospital.
A total of 79 people have tested positive for cholera in Birgunj, while 103 suffering from diarrhoea are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the metropolis.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Health and Population has urged the general public to remain alert and cautious so that cholera, diarrhea and other water induced disease specially during the summer and rainy seasons. The ministry has asked people to consume water only after boiling or using chlorine and keep in mind person hygiene and sanitation and compulsorily use toilet and not to defecate in the open
