Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala has been recognized as Best Actor (Female) in the Drama Series for her performance in Heeramandi: The Diamod Bazaar in at the Filmfare OTT Awards.

The awards celebrate exceptional talent in web series and original films, highlighting the contributions of actors, directors, musicians, and storytellers.

Other winners included Gagan Dev Riar, who took home Best Actor (Male) in the Drama Series, and Rajkummar Rao, awarded Best Actor (Male) in the Comedy Series for Guns and Gulaas. Geetanjali Kulkarni was named Best Actor (Female) in the Comedy Series for her role in Gullak Season 4.

The Danube Properties Filmfare OTT Awards 2024 concluded last evening with several artistes and technicians walking home with the prestigious Black Lady. Manisha Koirala won the Best Actor Series (Female) Drama Award for her role in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

After accepting the award, she said, “For me, Heeramandi was the biggest platform ever.  I have done almost 100 films and when I first saw the sets of Heeramandi, I was so in awe. I was enamoured with the beautiful gorgeous set.”

She said, “It’s such a blessing to be loved by so many people and be relevant for today’s generation. It is so important for us as actors and artistes to be loved by for our work and I am hugely grateful.”

Manisha Koirala, a Nepali actress and worked in Hindi and Tamil films where she earned fame. She was born on 16 August 1970 is a Nepalese actress who works Born to the politically prominent Koirla family, she is the daughter of Prakash Koirla and the granddaughter of former Prime Minister B P Koirala, and a recipient of several accolades, including threeFilmfare Awards, oneFilmfare Awards South and oneFilmfare OTT Awards. She also received critical recognition for playing a naive girl in 1942: A Love Story (1994), an ambitious wife in Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), the daughter of deaf-mute parents inKamoshi: The Musiacal (1996), a terrorist inDilSe.. (1998) and a mistreated woman inLajja (2001), establishing her as one of the leading actresses of Indian cinema.

Since 2003, Koirala began to work with independent film makers in art-house projects. Her performances in films such as the escape drama Escape from Taliban (2003), the family dramaTulsi (2008), the Malayalam psychological drama Elektra (2010), the anthology I am (2010) and the Tamil romantic comedyMappillai (2011), were praised. In 2012, she took a break from acting for some years, as she was diagnosed with last stage ovarian cancer and underwent a year-long treatment but made successful recovery by mid-2014. She officially returned to screen with the 2017 coming-of-age drama Dear Maya. In 2018, she starred in Sanjay Dutta’s biopic Sanju, portraying Dutt’s mother and yesteryear actress –Nargis, and the Netflix production Lust Stories, that marked her debut in the OTT space in India. She has since starred in several projects including the acclaimed period drama series Heeramandi (2024).

In addition to acting in films, Koirala was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund in 1999 for India and 2015 for Nepal, and was involved in the relief works after the April 2015 Nepal Earthquake. She also contributed as an author to the novel Healed: How Cancer Gave Me a New Life; which is an account of her struggle with ovarian cancer. Koirala is frequently cited as one of the most beautiful actresses of her times.
