Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balendra Shah has announced plans to install a life size statue of KMC’s first mayor, Prem Lal (PL) Singh. The announcement was made during the 16th session of the Municipal Council on Sunday. The statue will be placed on the premises of the National Assembly to honor the late mayor’s legacy and contributions.
Mayor Shah announced plans to erect a statue of the late PL Singh, recognizing his significant role in making Kathmandu Nepal’s first metropolitan city. The statue will honor significant contributions made by Singh to the development of KMC.
Former Mayor Singh, who played a key role in Nepal’s local self-governance and autonomy, passed away on December 16. He is credited for establishing the rights of the 753 local governments. He had coined the slogan of “Clean, Green and Healthy Kathmandu,” shortly after being elected the mayor.
