Prime Minister Sushila Karki, speaking for the first time in the National Assembly since her assumption of the post, on Sunday, expressed confidence that the election of the House of Representatives (HoR) would be held within the stipulated time in a free, fair and impartial environment.

Addressing the fifth meeting of the 19th session of the National Assembly, which began two weeks ago, Prime Minister Karki informed the members about the government’s preparations for the HoR election, which is one of the top priorities of the government, as well as the ongoing efforts in the areas of good governance.

She made it clear that she assumed the office as Prime Minister not having any desire for power but due to extraordinary circumstances, and expressed her eagerness to hand over responsibilities to the new government to be elected through the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

Prime Minister Karki also congratulated the newly elected members of the National Assembly. She recalled that an interim government was formed following the Gen Z movement of September 8 and 9 that led to resignation of then Prime Minister K.P. Oli. The main responsibility of the caretaker government formed after the GenZ movement was to bring back the country to the constitutional track and for that the government is committed in conducting the March 5 election in a free, fair and fearless manner, she pointed out.

The blueprint of governance aimed at minimizing corruption, has reached its final stage and the forthcoming ‘good conduct policy’ will play an important role towards building Nepal as the corruption free country, she maintained.
