Nepal government has deployed Army starting Wednesday keeping in view the upcoming general election scheduled for March 5, 2026. Army has been mobilized with a view to conducting the elections in a free, fair and fearless environment, said Nepal Army spokesperson.

“Security personnel from all the four security agencies have been mobilized under the coordination of the Nepal Army as per the government’s decision.”

President Ramchandra Paudel has already approved the recommendation made by the government to mobilize army for the House of Representatives elections scheduled to be held on March 5. The government has recently endorsed the House of Representatives Election Integrated Security Plan and implemented the same for strengthening law and order situation during the election. The Nepal Army will perform its task according to the integrated security plan, Nepal Army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet said.

Under the integrated security plan, personnel from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and National Investigation Department will be deployed in an integrated manner to ensure security during the election. There will be three tire security system for conducting the general election. The Nepal Police and temporarily hired election police will make the first circle, while the Armed Police Force personnel will be deployed as the second circle of the security plan. The Nepal Army personnel will be deployed in the third or outer circle as per the integrated security plan, according to Nepal Amy sources.

The army personnel and other security people area being deployed in all 165 election constituencies under the coordination of Nepal Army effective from February 4. Nepal Army will establish security base and conduct joint patrolling as per the need, said the Nepal Army.

Around 340,000 security personnel including 80,000 army personnel are being deployed across the country or the purpose of election security. Besides providing security to the election centres and booths, the army will also guard sensitive places such as airport and other important government offices under the integrated security plan.
