
The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) is heading to its 57th annual general body meeting (AGM) in a weeks on 11th and 12th April.
The elections for the FNCCI leaders to be held on the 12th April will elect a Senior Vice President, one each vice president for District and Municipality segment, Commodity segment, Associate segment and Bi-national Chambers segment. The elected VPs will represent their respective segments of the business community.
Anjan Shrestha, Ramchandra Sanghai and Umesh Lal Shrestha are prepared to contest for the post of Senior Vice President of FNCCI as the elected one will be automatically elevate to the post of president after next election in three years to come. They individually have been engaged to be in touch with the individual voters’ level since a year or more. Lately, they are coining their agenda to influence the government mechanism in solving the problems of the business community bearing these days and the impact of lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, the interest rates exercised by the commercial banks to lower at a tolerable level are also their common agenda.
They are organised separately with other ex-officio candidates. Arun Raj Sumargi, Manish Lal Pradhan, Prabal Jung Pandey, Dinesh Lal Shrestha, Jyotsna Shrestha, Hem raj Dhakal, Bharat Raj Acharya also have declared to contest for the posts of vice presidents.
The provision for the elected Senior Vice President to be elevated to President was introduced lately. Bhawani Rana and Shekhar Golchha become President of FNCCI with this provision. Incumbent President Shekhar Golchha will be replaced by incumbent Senior Vice President Chandra Dhakal soon after take over by the newly elected one.
The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) is the nationally and internationally recognized umbrella organization of business in Nepal. Organised as a representative body of business organizations in the country, it represents the interests of the private sector and is involved in promotion of socio economic development of Nepal through private sector led economic growth.
The organisation was established under National Directives Act 1961 (Rastriya Nirdeshan Ain 2018). At present, it comprised 121 District / Municipality Level Chambers in 77 Districts of Nepal including 1 Observer chamber), 23 Commodity / Sectoral Associations, 1762 Leading public and private sector undertakings and 20 Bi-national Chambers including 8 observer chambers. Likewise, FNCCI is represented in almost all national councils / boards / committees / policy advisory bodies concerned with business and industry.
FNCCI was established in 1965. The FNCCI objectives are determined by its statute. The objectives are to: (a) Promote the economic and social development of Nepal while protecting and defending the rights and interests of the business persons of the entire country. (b) Make effective and significant contribution to the development of open market economy while recognizing the changes taking place in the global arena. (c) Act as a supreme representative body of the trade and industry of the country while supporting the national goals of self-reliant and independent national economy. (d) Foster cooperation with related national and foreign organisations.
