Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka recently had assured that electricity load shedding will not happen as the matter has been much talked in social media. Speaking at the Infrastructure Development Committee meeting held on Wednesday last week, Minister Khadka assured that there will be no load shedding for any reason other than maintenance.

He said that power outages have been occurring not only these days but also in previous years too. He claimed that power outages lasted for about 700 hours last year due to various reasons. It was mentioned that sometimes there are problems in the electricity supply due to wind, sometimes due to the collapse of large poles, and sometimes due to human error. Minister Khadka clarified that there is no load shedding situation except for the interruptions due to maintenance and that it will not happen in the coming years.

He further said, “There has been some discussion in the market. We had imported up to 1,050 megawatts of electricity this winter. Domestic production was increasing, decreasing to 600 or 700 as per the requirement.” ”Until the Monday last week, we were importing 350 megawatts of electricity, but we have exported 150 megawatts of electricity. As electricity has been enough and surplus so we could export.”

“Analysing the statistics of last year, it seems that electricity was disrupted for about 700 hours throughout the year due to various reasons,” he added. Sometimes there was a power outage due to wind, sometimes collapse of pole, sometimes an accident caused by people climbing on it, sometimes due to rain or hail. Except for occasional interruptions during maintenance, there is no load shedding at the moment. There is no sign of further load shedding in the coming year. Because production is increasing, Minister Khadka clarified.
