
The 27th Annual General Meeting Nepal Economic Journalists’ Society (SEJON) held on Saturday elected a new working committee under the leadership of Bhagwat Bhattarai.
Bhagwat Bhattarai had defeated the closest rival, Bishwas Regmi, by 18 votes. Bhattaraihad received 110 votes, while Regmihad secured 92. Kamal Basnet has been elected as the new general secretary and Keshu Lamichhane as treasurer.
Previously, Bhattarai had contested for the post of vice-president post but was defeated, while Regmi was elected for the post of general secretary. In the recently concluded elections, AchyutPuri was defeated in the general secretary race and MamataThapa lost the treasurer election.
Moreover, Jeevan Basnet was unanimously elected as vice president and Shankar Pandit as secretary. The newly elected members include Arjun Tamang, Kamal Dhital, Bhojraj Bhandari, Raju Banskota and Seema Tamang.
Society of Economic Journalists- Nepal (SEJON) has played an important role on the professional development of the economic journalism in Nepal. The organization has been developing and organizing various policy discussion and capacity development programmes. So as the organization has been contribution to the economic journalism fraternity through the capacity development, policy discussions on pertinent issues, research projects, publications and many more. Not only has it notified the policy makers on the relevant issues, it has also disseminated knowledge to general public about the economic condition and situation.
SEJON is a representative body incorporating over 280 professional economic journalists associated with print, electronic and online media across the country. The organization was established in 1998.
