Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah has instructed the vice chancellors of the universities to implement the decision to dismantle structure of political party based student and employee unions in the universities and health institutions.
PM Shah issued the directives during the 3-hour long discussions at the PM’s office in Singh Durbar secretariat with the vice chancellors of universities and heads of health institutes across the country.
In their response, vice chancellors had mentioned that initiatives are being taken to dismantle such organizations as students politics has become irrelevant after the Gen Z movement and the House of Representatives election, according to the PM’s secretariat.
PM Shah stressed that no politics should be entertained in any academic institutions and that no law stands as barrier to dismantle political party based organizations in educational institutions.
The PM suggested to those willing to engage in politics to disassociate from professional obligations as the government will not tolerate political parties’ flags, influence or organisations in places such as hospital, colleges and universities.
PM Shah on the occasion also assured that the government will provide full security to enforce its decision to dismantle party based student organizations in educational institutions.
On the occasion, PM Shah, who is also the chancellor of the universities, directed all to follow academic calendar and publish exam results within a month.
The RSP has while forming the government led by Shah, 100 point commitment paper was made public in which it was mentioned that political party based students unions will be scrapped from the universities and educational institutions and will be replaced by academic based student council.
