
Four days after busting a gambling fraud by arresting four Indian nationals and two Nepalese from Casino Waldo located in Thamel, the tourist hub of Kathmandu the police have arrested its Chinese operator for his alleged involvement in the fraud case.
According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, the spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range, Chinese national Chan Man Ching, the casino’s operator, has been arrested by the police in this connection. A special team of police on the basis of a tip off earlier arrested six people including four Indian nationals from the casino on Wednesday for their involvement in a casino fraud involving millions of rupees.
The arrests were made in connection with cheating of genuine players by using magnetic chip attached playing cards and specially designed eye lenses to secretly read the cards from behind so as to manipulate the game.
Seven people including two Nepalese nationals involved in the scam are absconding, according to Bhattarai. The gambling fraud was detected during a special gaming event organized at Casino Waldo from December 11 to 14. All the players involved in the gaming event were from India. According to the players, transactions worth Rs. 17 million were made during the event. According to Kathmandu Police spokesperson Bhattarai, the police have suspected that the casino management was also involved in the gaming fraud.
Spokesperson Bhattarai said that it was not possible to manipulate the gaming system with the help of magnetic chips without the active support of the casino management, adding that the police will initiate thorough investigation into the matter taking the Chinese operator into custody.
