Army rescues 12 locals from Langtang trekking, life returns normal in Kathmandu

Nepali Army has rescued twelve Nepalese trekkers who were stranded in Langtang area due to floods and landslides during their trekking journey near the mountain region.

According to the Directorate of Public Relations of the Nepal Army, all 12 individuals were brought to Syafrubesi in Rasuwa by Monday. However, four people including two women, who were swept away by Bering Khola river could not be located, said the Nepal Army.

The group of 16 had set out from Kathmandu on a trek to Langtang National Park Area situated 120 km North East of Kathmandu. Among them, four went missing after being swept away by the Bering Khola following incessant rain on October 3.

Those missing are identified as Sanskriti Shrestha, 26, Kisan Shrestha, 25, Sanita Shrestha, 26 and Ravi Shrestha 23 all from Bhaktapur district. Of them three are from a single family.

A joint search and rescue operation involving the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force is currently underway for the search of those missing in the incident.

Meanwhile, Nepal Army has rescued four pregnant women who were stranded in Ilam district due to obstruction of roads following incessant rain for the past two days. The army helicopter airlifted them from the area and admitted to the nearby hospitals.

At least 60 people were killed on Saturday and Sunday due to natural disaster related incidents including floods and landslides in different parts of the country.

However, now life has returned to normal in Kathmandu valley as weather conditions has improved since Sunday afternoon and rain has stopped almost completely in the capital city on Monday.

There was heavy rain from Friday night to Saturday night in Kathmandu, Madhes and other major parts of the country. Roadways, traffic, business and the people’s daily activities have largely returned to normal. Now most of the roads are operational, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

As the weather improved, people’s movement has increased in the market areas as they stepped out to purchase daily necessities.

However, the sky will be generally cloudy in Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpachim Provinces and remain partially cloudy in the remaining provinces. A few places of the hilly and Terai regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces are expected to witness moderate thunder showers on Monday evening.
