
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, underscoring the transformative power of meditation, called for adopting yoga and meditation as a way of life for ensuring global peace at a time when the entire humanity has been terrorized by war and violence.
PM Oli said this while addressing a gathering of some 5,000 people at Tuindekhel Open Ground in Kathmandu who attended half an hour meditation session marking the 1st World Meditation Day – December 21.
He urged people to integrate yoga and meditation and practice positive thinking as peace cannot possibly come if we use weapons against weapon in this world.
Pointing out the need to practice meditation regularly for holistic health, the PM Oli expressed the view that such kind of ancient wisdom should be transferred to the new generation and extend such knowledge to the school level.
Terming meditation as the ‘source of civilization’, the Prime Minister underlined the need to give continuity to yoga and meditation to materialize the government’s determination of making Nepal a healthy nation.
On the occasion, spiritual leaders including Swami Anand Arun, head of Osho Tapoban and LP Bhanu Sharma conducted meditation sessions to the thousands of participants including the Prime Minister, ministers, political leaders, heads of security agencies and civil society leaders.
Swamin Arun on the occasion underlined the need for promoting Nepal as a spiritual and yoga tourism destination and urged the government to establish yoga and meditation academy in the country to preserve and promote the ancient knowledge.
He also mentioned about Bigyan Bhairav Tantra, a scripture based on Kashimiri Shaivism which describes 112 universal techniques of meditation that is believed to be taught to Parvati by Lord Shiva thousands of years ago.
Nepal along with six other countries joined hands with India to propose to the United Nations General Assembly to declare December 21 as the World Meditation Day.
The UN General Assembly on December 6 this year proclaimed December 21 as the World Meditation Day to raise awareness about meditation and its benefits.
