Major parties agree to move forward the process of appointing CJ

The Speaker of the House of Representatives and three major political parties have reached an understanding to recommend the name for the vacant post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court through a meeting of the Constitutional Council. 

The post of the apex court CJ has remained vacant for months. An agreement to this effect was reached among Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Speaker Devraj Ghimire in the meeting, according to NC leader Ramesh Lekhak.     

The meeting was held at the residence of Chairperson Oli’s residence at Balkot on Sunday. The Chief Justice would be appointed after conducting a parliamentary hearing on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.     

The discussion was also taken on the issue of moving forward the Bills to amend the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act and the Commission of Investigation on the Enforced Disappeared Persons Act, 2071 BS and Constitutional Council the NC leader.
