Salt Trading to provide ten quintals of sugar to retailers

The Salt Trading Corporation is to provide up to 10 quintals of sugar to retailers for sale, thanks to the initiatives taken by the office of the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister. The Council of Ministers has arranged for the Salt Trading Corporation to purchase at least 3,000 metric tons of sugar from sugar mills as the shortage of sugar surfaced in the country.

The PM office has also directed chiefs of the security forces of the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley to mobilise a monitoring team to for search sugar purchased illegally and stored.

The retailers can purchase the aforesaid amount of sugar from the Kalimati branch of Salt Trading till today, Monday, and from Tuesday onwards they can get it from the Koteshwor branch of Salt Trading.

Arrangement has been made in such a way that the customer can purchase sugar at Rs. 115 per kg.

STC operating subsidized outlets for festivals

During the on going festival season, Salt Trading Corporation has operated subsidized outlets in eight different places within Kathmandu valley. Besides food grains and other essential items, these outlets are providing sugar and salt at subsidized rates to the consumers during Dashain, Deepawali and Chhath festivals.

Salt Trading operated subsidized shops are being operated at Kalimati, Satungal, Sifal, Jawalakhel, Koteshwor, Kaushaltar, Bhaktapur and Suryavinayak.

Daily necessity goods such as rice, beaten rice, edible oil, lentils, salt, sugar, spices, flour, tea and STC gas are available in these shops. In these outlets STC is offering sugar at Rs. 97 per kg and salt for Rs. 18 per kg at subsidized rates. Similarly, Rs. 7 discount is given for edible oil, according to STC management.

STC has also made available sugar to the retail shops operating in Kathmandu.
