Nepali Congress party has bagged nine seats in the National Assembly in Sunday’s election followed by CPN-UML with 8 and Lokatantrik Samajwadi Party with 1 seats. According to the Election COmmission, Out of 18 vacant seats, the Nepali Congress has won the highest number of seats, 9 in the election for the Upper House. Nepali Congress and CPN- UML have reached an understanding for electoral alliance in the election.

The Nepali Congress has now become the largest party in the 59 member National Assembly as the party’s seat has reached 25. Nepali Communist Party has become the second largest party with 18 seats in the National Assembly. With the current election the CPN-UML’s strength in the NA has reached 11.

The Upper House has a total of 59 seats of which one third remains vacant in every two years. Eight seats each are elected from seven provinces, totaling 56 and the remaining 3 seats are filled through president’s nomination.

For the National Assembly member election, eligible voters include provincial assembly members, mayors, deputy mayors, as well as chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities, who carry different weightage. The voting started at 9 am on Sunday and concluded at 3:00 PM. According to the election commission, 95.68 per cent votes were casted in the election of Upper House held on Sunday.
