The tenure of the Probe Commission formed by the government to investigate into the excessive use of force during the September 8 and 9 Gen Z movement has been extended by 25 days. The meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday took a decision to extend the deadline of the probe commission for the third time, said spokesperson and member of the commission Bigyan Raj Sharma. The tenure of the commission is expiring on Wednesday, February 11. Now the commission’s tenure has been extended till March 9. The Sushila Karki government formed the Commission through a Cabinet decision on September 21, 2025 under the chair of former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki. It comprises former Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwor Bhandari as members. The term of the Commission has been extended for the third time as extra time was required for preparation of the report. The commission has taken written as well as recorded explanations with around 170 people including former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in connection with the suppression of the two day movement in which 77 people were killed. The Gen Z youths launched the protests with the major demands of lifting ban on social media sites and checking corruption.
