EC approves schedule for House of Representatives election

Election Commission, Nepal, has approved the schedule for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) to be held on March 5, 2026.

According to the schedule, political parties will have to get registered to participate in the poll from November 16 to 26 and if a new political party wants to take part in the Parliamentary elections, it should get registration of political party by November 15.

Political parties will be allowed to carry out their election publicity campaign for a period of 15 days, February 15 to March 2, 2026, according to a notice issued by the Election Commission. Parties will have to submit their closed list for proportional election on January 2 and 3, 2026, states the press release.

The election will be conducted from 7 am to 5 pm on March 5, 2026. Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel announced the date for fresh election on September 12 by dissolving the House of Representatives.

The Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli had tendered resignation following the protests by Gen Z group on September 8 and 9 in which 76 people were killed. Sushila Karki was appointed by the President as the caretaker Prime Minister on the same date.
