The Interim government headed by Sushila Karki has formed a three member high level judicial probe commission headed by former Justice of the Supreme Court Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate into the incidents surrounding the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9, when 72 people were killed. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma led government was toppled following the violent protests.
Former Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Bigyan Ran Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwor Prasad Bhandari are the members of the probe commission, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal told reporters while making public the decisions of Sunday’s cabinet meeting to the journalists at Singhdurbar Secretariat.
The probe commission has the mandate to submit its report to the government within 3 months. Forming a high level probe commission to investigate into the killing of students as the security personnel crushed the agitation by the protesters in Kathmandu on September 8 and 9 was one of the key demands of the Gen Z group.
