Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has instructed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and its subsidiary agencies to work for ensuring smooth supply of essential food items ahead of the upcoming festivals including Dashain and Tihar. During an interaction programme at the council of ministers at Singhdurbar talking to the government staff regarding the trade and supply situation of the country the other day, the Prime Minister said, “there should not be any compromise in dealing with those involved in creating artificial scarcity of goods, black marketing and making undue profit.”
“There might be the tendency of earning undue profit among some traders through black marketing while supplying sugar and other essential goods. In such a case we might ask Salt Trading to intervene in the matter,” the Prime Minister said. There should not be any compromise in such matters, he made it clear.
During the programme attended by Minister for Industry and Commerce Damodar Bhandari, Chief Secretary Eknath Aryal and secretaries of different ministries and other high government officials, the Prime Minister gave direction to reduce import, increase export and strictly ban import of intoxicated food items.
He also asked the government staff not to encourage farming of such items as hemp which are harmful to human health, though it may be profitable.
