‘It is natural to occasionally have problems with the neighbours and we can resolve them through open dialogue,’ remarked Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli.

Speaking at a book release programme in Kathmandu the Prime Minister said, problem will not arise if we seek justifiable and appropriate solution on the basis of facts and proofs by maintaining international obligations without elaborating the matter much.

He was speaking as chief guest at the programme to release a book titled “Diplomacy and Geopolitics” authored by former Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa.

Nepal maintains good friendly relations with both the neighbours on a balanced manner by observing honesty and neutrality, said Oli. ‘We don’t allow our land to be used against any of our neighbours, he made it clear.

“We adhere to the principles of the United Nations and seek neutral and peaceful solutions to the problems,” he added.

It is not appropriate to always blame geopolitics to hide our internal weakness, he said. He also asked the Indian side to accept the report prepared by the Nepal- India Eminent Person’s Group (EPG Report) which includes among other things the matter relating to review the Peace and Friendship Treaty of 1950, and added that this will facilitate dialogue to sort out border issues and other matters.

Recalling the signing of Trade and Transit Treaty with China during his previous tenure as the Prime Minister at the time of blockaded imposed by India in 2015, he said it was indeed a big achievement.
