Twenty seven Indian tourists die in Tanahu bus accident

Twenty seven people died when a bus carrying Indian tourists fell into Marsyangdi river from Prithvi highway. in Tanhu district. Sixteen others, who were injured in the incident were airlifted to Kathmandu and admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. They were taken on board a helicopter by Nepal Army.

The bus with number plate UP FT 7623 of the Indian company Kesarwani Transport Travels, which left Pokhara for Kathmandu, fell into the Marsyangdi river 150 meters below the road located in Ainpahara, Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun on Friday afternoon. 

Twenty six people including 15 women and 11 men died while undergoing treatment at Anbukhaireni Hospital while one died in Bharatpur during treatment. They are residents of Maharashtra, India. After competing the autopsy at Bharatpur Hospital, the body of 27 tourists werre taken to India. India’s Minister of State for Youth and Sports Rakshanikhil Khadse reached Bharatpur to collect the body of the tourist who died in the accident. She also visited at TU Teaching Hospital at Maharajgunj along with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to meet patients undergoing treatment there.  

The Indian tourists entered Nepal two days ago on August 21 to visit Pokhara, Lumbini and Kathmandu. Altogether 104 Indian tourists came to Nepal via Gorakhapur in three buses for ten days package tour. They were on their way to Lumbini through Gorakhpur crossing on the morning of August 21. On the same day, they reached Pokhara via Palpa, Syangja at night. One of the bus met with the accident at Ambukhaireni while traveling to Kathmandu after spending two days in Pokhara.

Transport accident in Nepal has become a matter of concern these days. Dozens of people including tourists lost their lives within a month. It will spread negative publicity among the international visitors. Unless the concerned bodies take quick and effective measures to prevent road accidents, our tourism sector which is gradually improving in the post-Covid era cannot move forward.

Indian tourist bus pulled out of Marsyangdi river

The Indian tourist bus which plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Tanhu district on August 23 has been pulled out of the river. The bus was pulled out from the river by using a crane after closing the Mugling-Anbukhaireni road section in the national highway for four hours since Monday morning, according to Deputy Spokesperson of Armed Police Force Shailendra Thapa.

Initially, a single crane was used to pull the bus out but as the attempt failed another crane was added later to pull out the bus. Passengers were stranded on the highway for hours while the work of pulling the bus was underway. However, the road section opened Monday evening after pulling out the bus from the river.

Twenty seven Indian tourists lost their lives when the Indian-bus (UP 53 FT 7623) plunged into the river at Anbukhaireni on Friday. Following the post-mortem, the dead bodies were sent to Mumbai by an Indian Air Force aircraft. Sixteen passengers who were rescued from the accident site are receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
