Former US President Donald Trump was shot the other day during an election rally in Pennsylvania. Trump, the candidate for the upcoming November election from the Republican Party, was the target of an attack while addressing supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania, the “swing state”. The shots were fired at him “with the intention of killing Trump,” according to US officials. Former President Trump was shot by a 20-year-old youth from the roof of an industrial building about 130 meters away.
Trump was seen bleeding from his ear after the shooting. Soon after the incident, security personnel rushed to save him, live television showed. Following the incident, Trump was surrounded by Secret Service officers. Several gunshots were heard before the security forces brought the situation under control. As the situation came under control, Trump was escorted out of the rally venue. During that, Trump raised his fist and encouraged his supporters. According to officials, one person was killed and two others were injured in the shooting.
The FBI has identified the suspect who shot Trump as Thomas Crooks. The suspect was not carrying any identification at the time of the attack and investigators have formally identified him through DNA. Citing officials, CNN and AP reported that some explosive devices were found in his home and vehicle. The US Department of Defense Pentagon said the attacker Crooks did not have a military background.
The world community has condemned the shooting attack on Trump. World leaders have expressed their shock at the attack. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres wished Trump a speedy recovery and strongly condemned the incident, his spokesman said. American politicians including US President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have condemned the attack and said there is no place for violence in politics. Billionaire Elon Musk has spoken out against the attack, wishing Trump well. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi protested the attack saying that violence should have no place in politics and democracy.
