Newaa community organizations support KMC actions against squatters

Different organisations dedicated and operated for conservation of the Newaa civilization, culture traditions had decided to support recent actions taken by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to remove unauthentic squatters at the Bagmati river side in Thapathali. The squatters have built shelters, sheds and homes over the open land by Bagmati river side. KMC had issued notice to clear them but the squatters were ignored demanding allotment of land as alternatives to them. They even stoned and shown domestic weapons against the earthmoving vehicles and security personnel deployed by KMC to demolish the unauthentic structures. Some security persons were injured in the incident that took place on November 28. 

A discussion programme was organised in Kathmandu by Federation of Newaa Ethnic Organisations -the concerned entities. They stressed that real landless people should be identified and the river side should be cleared to reinstate clean environment to maintain civilization, culture traditions of the Kathmandu Valley. Bagmatiriver is one of the origin of the rich traditions of the Kathmandu Valley, they stated.

Chairperson of the federation Manoj Newaa Khadgi said that the federation supports KMC actions on illegal squatters. The real homeless or landless people should be considered to provide alternatives while others should be managed to their original districts or local levels for reasonable provisions.

The Kathmandu Valley people are concerned seriously to the actions KMC aims to maintain KMC cultural heritage. Nobody should obstruct the moves, he stressed. Khadgi also mentioned that the information collected by National Land Commission mobilising ward levels must not be stopped. As such the cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley should be restored, he opined. 

Anjita Khadgi of Nepal Khadgi Sewaa Samiti, on the occasion said that young generation need to be involve in heritage actions. Balendra Shah the elected mayor of KMC also needs to honour the local sentiments, she added. The KMC acts to clear the Bagmati river side is much appreciable, she added. Kathmandu has been a concern of not only the original residents, it has been matter of pride for the whole citizens, she further added.  The event was participated in leaders and members of by Syasyo Smaj, Kendriya Manandhar Sangha, Nakahmi Sewaa Pucha, Rajopadhyay Samaj, Kasaa Tadhan Guthi, Nepal Mali Samaj, Rajak Samudayik Bikas Sangha, Kapali Samaj, Putwar-Nagarkoti-Rajbahak Bikas Samaj, Shree Nepal Tandukar Samaj, Jyapu Maha Guthi, The Shakya Foundation and Pun (Chitrakar) Samaj
