Youth leader Gagan Thapa, who is also the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, has expressed the view that the current dissatisfaction among the people will disappear once the top leaders of Nepal’s major political parties distance them from power. His remarks came in the wake of In the wake of the continuous protests launched by pro-monarchists in the capital with the aim to reinstate monarchy.

Speaking at a program organised in Lalitpur on Saturday, General Secretary Thapa claimed that the ongoing protests will disappear from the day the top leaders of the top political parties start promoting new generation leaders stepping aside from their role. “We discuss democratic culture. The current issue is that the same face that society has long rejected appears in the roles. This is the most serious problem in our democracy,” Thapa pointed out. “I respect the top leaders of the big parties in Nepal. However, if they truly want to put an end to the country’s ongoing protests, they must take a break from their respective levels.”

He also claimed that dozens of Nepali Congress leaders are capable of running the Prime Minister’s office more effectively than the current president (Sher Bahadur Deuba).

“The current president is expected to become prime minister within the next 12 to 15 months. However, I believe that dozens of other leaders in my party would make better prime ministers than him,” Thapa said.

According to the agreement reached with the CPN-UML, the Nepali Congress will lead the government in the coming months. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has also reiterated their agreement whenever questioned about the change in ruling coalition.

Thapa also stated that monarchy cannot be made constitutional in Nepal. He expressed the belief that there should be no debate over whether to have a constitutional monarchy, monarchy, or republic.

For the past few months, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the only political party with a royalist agenda, has held various demonstrations in the Kathmandu valley.

In response to growing protests by pro-monarchists attempting to infiltrate their agenda, the Kathmandu District Administration Office declared the road in front of Narayanhiti Palace a ‘prohibited area’ and barred people from gathering and holding events there.
