Nepal’s poor performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 continued on Monday as they suffered yet another defeat, losing to Canada by five wickets in their third match of the tournament.
This marks Nepal’s second consecutive loss to Canada in the ongoing triangular series.
With this result, Nepal remains in seventh place in the points table with just two points from seven matches, having secured only one victory so far. Canada has climbed to the top of the table with 14 points from 11 games.
At the match played at King City, Canada, Nepal won the toss and opted to bat first but managed only 181 runs before being bowled out in 46.1 overs.
The team had a weak start, losing five wickets for just 36 runs. When they reached 87, they had already lost seven wickets.
Nepal’s lower order provided some resistance, with Gulsan Jha scoring 34, Sompal Kami contributing 21, Sandeep Lamichhane top-scoring with 49, and Karan KC scoring 24. However, these efforts could only push the total to a modest 181 point.
Kaleem Sana was the standout bowler for Canada, taking three wickets, while Dilon Heyliger picked up two.
In response, Canada chased down the target in 42 overs, losing five wickets. Navneet Dhaliwal led the charge with a match-winning 87 off 113 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. He formed a solid 129-run partnership with Pargat Singh, who added 64 runs.
Nepal’s bowlers struggled to contain the Canadian batting lineup, with Sandeep Lamichhane taking two wickets but failed to make any significant impact.
