With Prime Minister K.P. Oli determined to offer stability and service during his current Premiership, people expect some tangible and positive change in public service delivery and performance in other public sectors. Ministers of all parties in government including Nepali Congress have also demonstrated special interest in performing as per the PM’s direction. Since the whole ministry is driven by the spirit of collective responsibility, it would be able to make a difference in governance and development activities throughout the country. The federal level approach, it could be safely hoped, would be able to inspire the provincial governments and municipality level governance-dispensation to adopt result oriented actions. The same would over time be able to restore public trust in government. Since the NC and CPN UML, the two largest parties in parliament, have this time transparently committed themselves to work together for at least two years under the present executive, the government does not have to worry about parliamentary confidence. Moreover, the two established parties appear politically prepared to make the best use of the present hung parliament and allow it to run its full term. This enables the government to focus on two year schemes. In other words the government could work out initiatives for two years without any hindrance and worry. Although Nepalis expected stability and service all the time from government after 1990s, they could not get the opportunity to taste them. The reason for this, as explained by successive governments, is instability in Singha Durbar. PM Oli and his present team understand the point well and would therefore concentrate on performance. A working government in the real sense of the term is what he should provide this time. People expect it and the time also demands it. Any negligence in this regard would result in further worsening problems that the country and people face in their lives. The same would erode public trust in politicos as well. That would create complications for political parties in the next general elections. The team in government has therefore a great task to perform for improving image and impression and securing positive opportunities in the next polls.
