A beauty pageant is being organized among transgender women at Rastriya Nachghar, in Kathmandu on Thursday.
At a press conference organized in the capital on Saturday, chief of Blue Diamond Society (BDS), Pinky Gurung, informed that a competition is being held on May 16 to enhance the capacity of sexual and gender minority women.
The beauty pageant is being coinciding with the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), which is observed on May 17 at the call of the World Health Organization. This year, the day is being observed with the slogan ‘No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all.’
A total of 19 participants will be competing for the first prize including Rs 100,000 in cash. The first runner-up will be given Rs 75,000 and the second runner-up will be given a certificate along with a cash prize.
According to Sherchan, the winner of the competition will be selected to participate in the transgender beauty pageant to be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The contestants have also undergone a 15-days training on capacity building and personality development.
