Nepal – Korea Friendship Expedition 2024 will be attempting to scale twin virgin peaks of Mt. Jugal on the occasion of the 50 years of establishment of Nepal – Korea diplomatic relations.
A ten member mountain expedition which includes, seven Korean nationals and and three Nepalese has embarked on their journey to scale Mt. Jugal, I (6591 m) and Mt. Jugal II (6518 m) from Kathmandu on April 7. At the same time a team of 50 South Korean trekkers will embark for trekking in the Jugal Mountain region with a view to promoting tourism promotion of the region. Nepal government decided to open virgin mountain Jugal for climbing only last year. The team is being led by famous Korean mountaineer Um Hong Gil, who has already climbed all 14 eight thousands in the world including Mt. Everest. Three representatives from Korean National TV will also accompany the team with a view to filming the entire expedition. The documentary will be shown in Korean national television channel with a view to popularize Nepal as popular mountaineering destination, according to Mohan Lamsal, general secretary of Nepal Mountaineering Association.
