In the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2023/24, a total of 589 foreign nationals obtained work permits to work in Nepal.
Data received from the Department of Labour and Occupational Safety shows that by the month of Falgun (mid-February to mid-March), 589 foreign individuals had secured work permits for employment in Nepal. In Falgun alone, 29 individuals acquired work permits. The total number of work permit renewals for non-Nepali citizens reached 850 by Falgun, with only 63 renewals occurring in that month. The Department also monitors whether foreign nationals working in Nepal possess valid work permits. During this period, the Department monitored a total of 28 institutions, with monitoring conducted in only 3 institutions in Falgun.
Furthermore, one trade union federation has been newly registered within the 8-month time frame, with one federation being renewed. Additionally, six trade unions have been newly registered. Moreover, the Department recorded the renewal of 14 associations during this period. Furthermore, 50 companies have been granted labour supplier licenses, with 317 renewals of such licenses. In terms of inspection, the Department inspected 232 labour supply companies during the review period, that led to the resolution of 317 labour disputes.
