A meeting was held between the mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan Cityn (LMC) and New York City’s tourism promoter the other day to spread extensive publicity in the international arena for promoting tourists in Lalitpur.
LMC Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan and tourism promoter in New York Gokul Shrestha recently discussed matters relating to increasing number of foreign visitors and creating tourist-friendly environment in Lalitpur. During the meeting, the two discussed about forging collaboration to promote tourism in Lalitpur, which is rich in traditional art, architecture and cultural heritage.
On the occasion, Mayor Maharjan informed that Lalitpur has been developed as a tourist-friendly city and works are in progress to identify more destinations for tourists in Lalitpur, according to a press release issued by LMC. During the meeting Shrestha expressed his concern regarding tourist related information and road safety of Lalitpur.
On the occasion Mayor Maharjan informed Shrestha that the LMC has started distributing booklets consisting of information related to Lalitpur meant for tourists in Harare flights while landing in Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Mayor Maharjan said that the metropolis has initiated various plans to enhance road safety in Lalitpur. He also made it clear that the LMC has been focussing in the reconstruction and protection of archaeological sites, heritage sites, art and architecture of Lalitpur.
He underscored the need for preserving cultural heritages of Lalitpur and the need for widespread publicity of Lalitpur in the international area. The newly appointed promotor Shrestha assured that he will try his best for promoting tourism of Lalitpur in international arena.
While congratulating Shrestha for assuming new responsibility, Mayor Maharjan informed that he is always ready to collaborate for the promotion of tourism through the Ministry of Tourism and the Nepal Tourism Board. Mayor Maharjan recently visited the USA to participate in a program related with transportation management organized by the World Bank. Mayor Maharjan represented Nepal in the program attended by mayors from all over the world.
