The multinational military exercise- ‘Shanti Prayas IV’ kicked off at the play ground of Nepal Army headquarters in Kathmandu on Tuesday with the participation of soldiers from 19 countries including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal “Prachanda” inaugurated the two week long military event amidst a special ceremony in the presence of Nepal Army chief Gen. Prabhuram Sharma.
The exercise is taking place at Birendra Peace Operation Training Centre at Panchkhal of Kabhre district, 50 km east of Kathmandu with the assistance of Global Peace Operation Initiative of US government and with the joint efforts of Nepal Army and the US Army, according to a press release issued by the Nepal Army Headquarters.
Altogether 1,125 army personnel from 19 countries are taking part in the multi-national military exercise. The US delegation to the joint military exercise is being led by Deputy Assistant Secretary Rachel Schiller.
During the inaugural participating countries displayed their respective flags, fly pass and bands.
Nepal hosted the inaugural Multi Platoon Training Event, Exercise “Shanti Prayas” in the year 2000 and since then, three successful multi platoon exercises have taken place in Nepal, with the participation of military forces from various countries. The event will run till 4 March 2024. According to the Centre, the objective of the exercise is to increase interoperability and peacekeeping skills at various levels before their deployment to the UN missions and operational level staff training ( STE). The tactical level field training event (FTE) and critical enabler and capability enhancement (2CE) are the key events of the Exercise.
