LOF organizes workshop on role of youth in eco-restoration

If we are to achieve ecological restoration, humans should raise the voice for birds and animals as they cannot speak on their own, remarked Srichchha Pradhan, Miss Nepal World 2023. The “New World” is possible if we can change the present system by accepting challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation while working for the restoration of ecology,” said Miss Nepal Srichchha speaking at a workshop titled “Youth engagement in ecological restoration,” on Saturday.

The workshop was organized by Land Our Future in collaboration with G20 Global Land Initiative and Schems College, Koteshwor. Former Environment Minister Sunil Manandhar shed light on the role of younger generation in environmental preservation and ecological restoration and stressed on the need for collaborative efforts in tackling challenges of ecosystem restoration. Principle of the Schems College Ajay Mathema stressed on the need for carrying out works related to ecological restoration in a sustainable manner.

Devashree Niraula, research associate at the G20 GLI discussed the pressing issues relating to land degradation and outlined strategies for achieving the recovery of degraded lands, highlighting the objectives of the G20 Global Land Initiative. Shiksha Khanal, Deputy Coordinator of LOF, underscored the pivotal role of youth towards restoration of ecology. She shed light on the significance of restoration for the overall well-being of nature, stating that conservation efforts alone are not sufficient.
