Falgun 7 marks a significant milestone as Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the esteemed state-owned news agency of Nepal, commemorated its 63rd anniversary. On this auspicious occasion, heartfelt tributes are extended to the founders of RSS, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for this revered institution.
The journey of RSS is a testament to the perseverance and dedication of past management committees, employees, and journalists who have tirelessly served the organization over six decades. Their unwavering commitment, even during challenging times, has been instrumental in shaping the trajectory of RSS.
Established as a supportive entity to furnish news to the country’s burgeoning newspapers, RSS traces its origins to the recommendations of the Press Commission formed by the government in 2014 BS. In response to these recommendations, Nepal Sambad Samiti was founded on Push 1, 2016 BS, under the leadership of pioneering youth journalists Gopaldas Shrestha, Madan Sharma, Govinda Biyogi, and Ganesh Manandhar.
Subsequently, Sagarmatha Sambad Committee was established on Baishakh 30, 2017 BS, by journalists Manindraraj Shrestha, Pashupatidev Pandey, and Shankarnath Sharma. The amalgamation of Nepal Sambad Samiti and Sagarmatha Sambad Samiti on Falgun 7, 2018 BS, culminated in the birth of RSS, under the visionary leadership of Ramraj Paudyal, Govinda Biyogi, and Manindraraj Shrestha.
Throughout its illustrious journey spanning 62 years, RSS has weathered numerous challenges, from political upheavals to natural calamities. Serving as a steadfast witness to pivotal moments in Nepal’s history, including the advent of democracy, the establishment of the republic, and the evolution of media landscape, RSS has etched its legacy as a beacon of journalistic integrity and excellence.
As a custodian of news dissemination, RSS remains steadfast in its commitment to serve as the media’s ally and conduit of information. Embracing inclusivity and diversity, RSS endeavors to reflect the multifaceted tapestry of Nepal’s ethnic communities and languages in its news coverage.
In a bid to expand its outreach, RSS has embarked on initiatives to disseminate news in various mother languages, including the recent launch of news services in Awadhi. The agency’s foray into audio-visual services underscores its adaptability and innovation in navigating the evolving media landscape.
Today, RSS stands at the forefront of news dissemination, providing comprehensive coverage in Nepali, English, and Awadhi languages, supplemented by international news from various agencies. The dedication of RSS journalists, deployed across all 77 districts and beyond, remains the cornerstone of its success.
As RSS embarks on a new chapter of growth and evolution, it extends heartfelt gratitude to its subscribers and stakeholders for their unwavering support. The agency looks forward to their continued guidance and collaboration in its mission to uphold journalistic excellence and serve as a steadfast guardian of truth.
Congratulations to the RSS family on this momentous occasion, and best wishes for continued success and prosperity in the years ahead.
