With a historic 1-wicket win over Afghanistan, Nepal has reached the Super Six of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup on Friday. After Aakash Chand’s bowling and captain Dev Khanal’s good performance in batting, Nepal overcame the challenge of Afghanistan in the decisive match of the group stage and reached the second stage. After Aakash took 5 wickets, Afghanistan were batted first by Nepal in 40.1 overs after Dev scored 58 runs at Buffalo Park in East London, South Africa, Nepal completed the victory target in 44.4 overs.

Nepal has passed the group stage for the third time in the U-19 World Cup. Earlier, Nepal created a sensation by defeating Test nations like Pakistan (2002), South Africa (2004, 2006) and New Zealand (2006, 2016). Since 2000, Nepal has participated in the U-19 World Cup. In the 24-year history of the U-19 World Cup, Nepal has played eight times in the World Cup. In this process, Nepal reached the quarter-finals once and the second stage once. In the 2016 World Cup in Bangladesh, Nepal created history and confirmed the quarter-final spot. Nepal’s opponent for the Super Six stage has not been selected. Nepal will compete against the Group ‘A’ winners and runners-up in the Super Six. India, Bangladesh, Ireland and America are in this group. Nepal will compete with the top two of these three. In the Super Six, teams from Group ‘A’ and ‘D’ will face each other. There will also be a competition between the teams of Group ‘B’ and ‘C’. . Nepal will play the runner-up of Group ‘A’ on 31 January and the winner of Group A on 3 February. Nepal will have to win both games to strengthen their chances of entering the semi-finals for the first time in the U-19 World Cup.
